So you want to get far away from Halloween, as in really super-far, as in a place where the vampires and ghosts can’t possibly find you.
Where do you go? A brightly lit street in the middle of a city? A happy garden full of flowers? A spot that’s full of balloons and clowns?
Well, wait. We better scratch that last one, in this case.
To escape the haunting holiday, you’d need to head straight for April, which is on the other side of the calendar from October, and just about as far from Halloween as you can get.
Unless, of course, Halloween finds you hiding out in April, which it will wickedly do, this spring, courtesy of a new immersive pop-up.
I Like Scary Movies, a limited-time experience devoted to a creepy collection of cinematic classics from Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema, will soon add a dose of monstrous fun to the Miracle Mile.
The not-so-sunshiny spot? Enter, if you dare, The Desmond, that historic and gorgeous Art Deco landmark, for a wonderland of eek-inducing delights.
Those eek-inspirers will include interactive odes to “The Shining,” “It,” “The Lost Boys,” “Beetlejuice,” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street.”
The Overlook Hotel, the graveyard from “Beetlejuice,” and other set-like locations will dot the experience, creating “amazing photo opportunities” for those who snap up a $39 ticket.
Freddy Krueger’s boiler room is also showing up, too. And here’s where we say “nighty-night, sweet dreams,” while really understanding that sweet dreams are scarce after visiting Freddy’s lair.
The artist behind these you’re-inside-them creations? Maximillian, who helmed the recreated “Snakes on a Plane” fuselage at a past Comic-Con International, as well as several other fantasy-driven sights and shows around Southern California.
Opening day is April 4, which is six macabre months and a handful of dastardly days, before Halloween proper.
Los Angeles, it is accurately said, is a Halloween-all-year-long kind of town. And when the eeriest of all occasions finds us inside bright and flowery April, we know that’s one, two, Freddy’s-coming-for-you true.
